Verdicts

Our verdict, brand by brand

SolarEdge vs Huawei

Huawei builds good string inverters and offers optional optimisers, but Buck-only (voltage down): the Boost falls to the inverter, below 98% efficiency. SolarEdge optimisation is standard, module-by-module, with the Buck-Boost patent: the inverter always works at 99%.

Optional vs standard opt.Buck-only vs Buck-Boost10 vs 25 yrs on optimisers

SolarEdge vs Fronius

A solid, respected Austrian manufacturer — but pure string architecture: no per-module electronics, so one shaded panel drags the string and there is no panel-level visibility. Optimising requires third-party hardware, with two warranties and two support lines.

Pure stringNo panel-level monitoring5+5 vs 12→25 warranty

SolarEdge vs SMA

The German premium classic. ShadeFix is MPPT-sweep software: it mitigates shade but cannot remove physical mismatch or give per-module data. On real Mallorca roofs (chimneys, antennas, mixed orientations), SolarEdge's per-panel electronics produce more and diagnose better.

Software vs per-module hardwareUp to 1,000V DCNo panel-level data

SolarEdge vs GoodWe

A fair budget option for perfect, shade-free roofs. But with no module-level optimisation or monitoring, every incident needs a site visit, and the 5–10 year standard warranty falls far short of the system's real 25–30 year life.

Price vs lifecycle5–10 year warrantyNo remote per-panel diagnosis

SolarEdge vs Growatt

Volume and aggressive pricing, with improved build quality in recent years. Same structural limit: pure string, no SafeDC, no per-module data. The initial saving dissolves against 10–30% lower annual production on shaded roofs.

Pure stringNo SafeDCLower output under shade

SolarEdge vs EcoFlow

A brilliant young brand (2017) in consumer portable batteries that recently entered residential PV. The ecosystem is attractive, but its track record in rooftop inverters, its service network in Spain and its 25-year warranty history are still being built. A roof is not a gadget: decades matter here.

Comparator FAQs

For most residential roofs in Mallorca, SolarEdge: its module-level optimisation is standard (optional and Buck-only on Huawei), its 98.7% system efficiency is higher, SafeDC™ drops the roof to 1V in an emergency, and its optimisers carry a 25-year warranty versus Huawei's 10. Huawei remains a worthy alternative on large shade-free arrays where price rules.
Fronius builds excellent string inverters, but without per-module electronics: on roofs with chimneys, antennas or mixed orientations — the norm in Mallorca — SolarEdge produces 10–30% more and lets you diagnose every panel remotely. On a perfect shade-free roof the gap narrows.
EcoFlow is a great portable-battery maker, but its entry into residential PV is very recent (PowerOcean, 2023). For equipment that must last 25–30 years on your roof, we value verifiable track record, local service and proven long warranties: there, SolarEdge (and KSTAR for batteries) remain the safe bet.
