⚡

Integrated module-level optimization

SolarEdge

Each panel operates with its own MPPT. Shading, soiling or different orientation of one module only affects that module. Total system efficiency 98.7%.

Fronius

Fronius is a pure string inverter. Without integrated optimizers, the weakest module limits the entire string's production.

🛡

SafeDC™: safety at no extra cost

SolarEdge

Integrated SafeDC™: 1V/module automatically. Sense Connect prevents arc faults by detecting connector temperature before failure.

Fronius

Fronius requires external Rapid Shutdown devices to comply with regulations in some markets. Additional cost and complexity.

🌡

Derating: 50°C vs 45°C

SolarEdge

SolarEdge inverters at full power up to 50°C. On Mallorca rooftops at 60°C+ in summer, this means more productive hours per day.

Fronius

Some Fronius models start derating at 45°C. During peak Mediterranean summer hours, power is lost when the sun is strongest.

📅

25-year optimizer warranty

SolarEdge

12→25 years inverter. Optimizers 25 years. 647 granted patents, 527 pending. Local support in Iberia with presence in 14 countries.

Fronius

5-10 years standard Fronius inverter warranty (extendable to 20). No distributed components with 25-year warranty.

📊

Monitoring: panel by panel

SolarEdge

SolarEdge portal: exact output of each module in real time. Remote diagnostics without a physical rooftop visit.

Fronius

Fronius Solar.web: system and inverter level monitoring. Faulty module requires physical inspection.

🏗

Flexible design on complex rooftops

SolarEdge

Strings of different lengths, multiple orientations, modules from different manufacturers in the same string. No design restrictions.

Fronius

String inverters require homogeneous conditions. Mixed orientations generate losses without third-party external optimizers.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Fronius makes excellent string inverters — robust, reliable and well-supported in Europe. But SolarEdge is not just an inverter: it adds distributed optimization at each module. With SolarEdge, each panel acts completely independently, generating up to 10% more annual energy in normal conditions and significantly more with partial shading — very common on Mediterranean rooftops with vegetation, chimneys or antennas.
The key difference is the architecture. Fronius is a conventional string inverter: all panels are interconnected and the weakest limits the others. SolarEdge has one optimizer per module — with exclusive Buck-Boost patent — making each panel operate at its optimum independently. Result: up to 10% more annual generation in normal conditions.
With a conventional Fronius string system, the shaded panel drags down production from all panels in that string. This is the known 'mismatch' effect. With SolarEdge, only the shaded panel reduces its output — the others continue at 100%. The difference can be 20-30% or more depending on the degree of shading.
Yes. SolarEdge offers 25 years on optimizers and 12 years (extendable to 25) on inverters. Fronius offers 5-10 years standard on inverters, extendable to 20 with paid extension. For an installation meant to last 25-30 years, the warranty difference is very significant.
SolarEdge without doubt. It allows strings of different lengths, multiple orientations (South + East + West) and different tilts in the same system without cross-losses. A conventional Fronius string system on a mixed-orientation rooftop suffers significant mismatch losses.
Because of the optimizer MPPT range: 8V-60V. The SolarEdge optimizer starts producing energy with just 8V of module voltage, before full sunrise and in very low irradiance conditions. Fronius, as a string inverter, needs the entire string to reach a higher minimum voltage to activate.
Yes. SolarEdge inverters operate at full power up to 50°C. Some Fronius models start derating (power reduction) from 45°C. On Mallorca rooftops that can reach 60-70°C in summer, this can mean 2-4 more hours of full production per day.
