SolarEdge vs Sungrow

Sungrow is the world's largest inverter manufacturer by volume. SolarEdge competes on technology: distributed Buck-Boost optimization that Sungrow, as a string inverter, cannot replicate.

✓ SolarEdge wins on: optimization technology, safety and granular monitoring
Technical comparison
⚡

Distributed vs centralized string architecture

SolarEdge

Each module with own MPPT. Shading on one panel doesn't affect others. System efficiency 98.7%. Constant voltage to inverter.

Sungrow

Sungrow string inverter. Shaded module reduces entire string production. No native distributed optimization in residential range.

🛡

SafeDC™ and Sense Connect

SolarEdge

1V/module automatically on AC disconnection. Sense Connect: preventive arc detection in connectors. Protection without external devices.

Sungrow

No SafeDC equivalent in standard residential range. High DC voltage while there is sunlight. Real risk for maintenance operators.

🏆

100 million optimizers installed

SolarEdge

Over 100 million SolarEdge optimizers in the field since 2010. Real track record across all European and Mediterranean climates.

Sungrow

Sungrow has no own optimizers with equivalent track record and warranty in the European residential market.

📊

Granular module-level monitoring

SolarEdge

SolarEdge portal: exact output of each panel in real time. Remote diagnosis and resolution. 4 million systems monitored.

Sungrow

Sungrow iSolarCloud: inverter and string monitoring. No standard module-level visibility in the residential range.

📅

25-year optimizer warranty

SolarEdge

25 years optimizers. 12→25 years inverter. Support with local presence in Iberia. 647 granted patents.

Sungrow

5-10 years standard on Sungrow inverters. No distributed components with equivalent long-term warranty.

🔧

Commissioning in under 15 minutes

SolarEdge

SolarEdge GO: residential installation in under 15 minutes. Free Designer. Network of 68,000+ trained installers.

Sungrow

iSolarCloud. Less integrated design tools. Less mature installer ecosystem for the European residential market.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Sungrow leads the global inverter market by production volume — but volume doesn't mean the best technology for your installation. SolarEdge has the Buck-Boost optimizer patent that makes each panel act independently. This means up to 10% more annual generation in normal conditions and significantly more with partial shading. Sungrow, as a string inverter, cannot match this without adding external optimizers.
In normal conditions (no shading, homogeneous modules), SolarEdge's advantage can be up to 10% annually thanks to each module operating at its optimum independently. With partial shading, mixed orientations or modules with different aging, the difference can be 20-30% or more.
Because each SolarEdge panel has its own optimizer making it operate independently. With Sungrow in standard string configuration, one shaded panel drags the entire string's production. With SolarEdge, only that panel reduces its output — the others continue at 100%.
Sungrow has no SafeDC equivalent in its standard residential range. SolarEdge SafeDC™ reduces each module's DC voltage to 1V automatically on AC disconnection, without additional devices. Sense Connect detects arc faults before they occur.
SolarEdge installed its first optimizer in 2010. It has spent 14 years perfecting its technology with over 100 million optimizers installed worldwide. Sungrow has no own optimizers with that track record.
SolarEdge is the right choice for rooftops with multiple orientations, variable shading levels or modules from different manufacturers. Sungrow, as a string inverter, requires string homogeneity for optimal performance. In Mallorca, with terraces, multi-slope rooftops and nearby vegetation, SolarEdge produces significantly more.
