SolarEdge vs EcoFlow PowerOcean

EcoFlow shines in consumer portable batteries and entered residential PV in 2023. SolarEdge has been optimising rooftops module by module since 2006: two different categories of product and of track record.

βœ“ SolarEdge wins on: module-level optimisation, SafeDC, panel-level monitoring, warranties and track record
Technical comparison
⚑

Module-level optimisation

SolarEdge

Every panel carries its Buck-Boost optimiser (exclusive patent) and operates independently at its maximum power point. Up to 10% more annual production, 20–30% more under shade.

EcoFlow PowerOcean

Hybrid string architecture with no per-module electronics: the weakest panel conditions the string. No comparable distributed optimisation.

🏭

Rooftop PV track record

SolarEdge

Residential PV specialist since 2006: over 4 million monitored systems and 128 million optimisers shipped worldwide.

EcoFlow PowerOcean

Founded in 2017 as a portable power-station maker. Its PowerOcean residential system launched in 2023: rooftop track record still very short.

πŸ›‘

SafeDCβ„’ safety

SolarEdge

On AC disconnection each optimiser drops its module to 1V automatically. A safe roof for firefighters and technicians, no extra devices. Sense Connect detects arcs before they form.

EcoFlow PowerOcean

Without per-module electronics, the string's DC cables keep high voltage while the sun shines, like any conventional string system.

πŸ“Š

Panel-level monitoring

SolarEdge

Individual production of every module in real time, remote diagnosis and automatic alerts: most issues are solved without climbing on the roof.

EcoFlow PowerOcean

System/string-level monitoring in the EcoFlow app. Locating a faulty module requires physical inspection.

πŸ“…

Warranties and backing

SolarEdge

25 years on optimisers and 12 extendable to 25 on inverters, with technical support in Iberia and presence in 14 countries.

EcoFlow PowerOcean

10–15 year warranties by component, from a company less than a decade old in fixed PV. 25-year backing is yet to be proven.

πŸ”§

Installer and service network

SolarEdge

A consolidated certified-installer network in Spain; in the Balearics, UEP Solar is the largest SolarEdge installer.

EcoFlow PowerOcean

A DTC (direct-to-consumer) brand by origin; its professional installation and service network in Spain is still being built.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

For a rooftop PV system that must last 25–30 years, SolarEdge: module-level Buck-Boost optimisation, 1V SafeDC, panel-level monitoring and 25-year optimiser warranty, with nearly two decades of rooftop-specific track record. EcoFlow is a great portable-battery brand, but its PowerOcean residential system was born in 2023.
SolarEdge places a Buck-Boost optimiser behind every panel: each module works independently and the inverter receives constant voltage at 99% efficiency. EcoFlow PowerOcean uses a hybrid string inverter without per-module electronics: the weakest panel drags the rest, as in any conventional string.
Yes: EcoFlow was founded in 2017 and became known for its portable power stations (River and Delta series). In 2023 it launched PowerOcean, its first fixed residential PV system. An interesting product, but its rooftop record, technical network in Spain and long-term warranty behaviour cannot yet be verified.
With SolarEdge, only the shaded panel reduces output; the rest keep working at 100%, with 20–30% more generation on partially shaded roofs. With a hybrid string like EcoFlow's, one shaded panel affects the whole string.
